To ensure that prospective owners are serious about their adoption, a $25.00 adoption application fee is charged. This fee will be applied against the adoption fee if the application is approved, returned if the application is denied, or if the Perry County Humane Society (hereinafter, “PCHS”) fails to find a dog that meets the applicant's requirements within two months. Applicants who withdraw their application prior to the end of the one-month search period forfeit their deposit.
The adoption fee is $150.00 for dogs from puppies to age 6years and $50.00 for dogs aged 7-8; this fee helps cover the cost of medical treatment (examinations, spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm check, and micro-chipping) given before the dog is adopted.
A donation is requested for PCHS's senior dogs (age 9 and up) and for PCHS's dogs with special medical needs.
There is a 14-day trial period for all adoptions. If the dog is returned within this time, the adoption fee (less the application fee) will be refunded.
PCHS attempts to place their Dogs in the best possible home environment, and to that end several interviews will be held between the prospective owners and PCHS volunteers.
PLEASE NOTE: A submitted application does not guarantee adoption of a Dog from PCHS; nor that the dog an applicant would like to adopt from PCHS, is the one that is best suited to meet their needs, and PCHS reserves the right to offer one they feel is better suited to match the application.
*The use of the term “adoption” in this Policy statement and elsewhere by PCHS is not intended to guarantee nor imply that the terms, rights, responsibilities or other circumstances of this transaction are similar to the “adoption” of a child. Under Ohio law, all types of dogs are considered personal property. However, this transaction is NOT a sale, gift, nor a lease of the dog. All dogs remain the exclusive property of PCHS and must be returned to PCHS immediately upon request.
